Jean-Marie Bub (she/her) is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist and author whose practice investigates the body as a site of evidence— bearing witness to the psychological, cultural, and material residues of violence, memory, desire, and survival. Working across drawing, painting and sculpture, Bub constructs psychologically charged works that interrogate materiality and the politics of embodiment through recurring motifs of femininity, religious iconography, ritual, and cultural mythmaking.
Rooted in an ethos of defiance, her practice rejects narratives of passive victimhood, and instead, treats the body as contested terrain where identity is continually negotiated through rupture, adornment, loss, and resistance. Her work exists as evidence of what has been endured, inherited, concealed, and ultimately refused.
